How Do I Know If I Need New Tires?
Factors Used To Assess Tires:
- Tread Wear- Worn tire treads make it difficult for your vehicle to handle weather conditions like rain and snow.
- Easy way to check tire tread- Insert a penny with Lincoln’s head pointed down, into the grooves of the tire tread. If any part of Lincoln’s head is hidden by the tire tread, your tires are fine. Otherwise, your treads are too shallow and it’s time to replace your tires.
Heat Exposure- Exposure to sun, heat, cold, and extreme weather conditions can cause structural damage to your tires.
Uneven Wear- Not rotating your tires regularly will cause them to wear unevenly.
Tire Age- Even if your tires have great tread, many vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing your tires after six years, and a max of ten years. Refer to your manufacturer’s recommendations.
Tire Damage- Tire damage from an object like a nail doesn’t always mean you have to replace the tire. Depending on the location of the puncture and the extent of damage, plugging the hole may be an option. However, you should never repair a tire with sidewall damage.

5 Benefits Of Getting New Tires
Safety
New tires help your vehicle go, stop, and turn safely.
Increased Performance
New tires allow more of your vehicle’s power to make contact with the ground. This helps when accelerating, stopping, and making turns at higher rates of speed.
Better Gas Mileage
Gas mileage doesn’t always come to mind when thinking about tires. However, a vehicle that is properly aligned, with good tires that are balanced, can increase your gas mileage. Always make sure your tire pressure is filled to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Improved Traction
Having tires that are suited to the specific needs of your vehicle is very important for proper traction. Depending on what your driving conditions are, your tire choice could vary. For most vehicles, an all-weather tire provides good traction. However, if you live in very snowy regions, or go off-roading, you may need to choose a different tire.
A Better Driving Experience
All of the above reasons for getting new tires are great. However, getting new tires can make you feel like you have a new car… The road noise becomes less, bumps aren’t felt as much, and the maneuverability is very noticeable.

What Is Tire Alignment And Why Do I Need It?
What Is Tire Alignment?
Alignment is the adjustment of a vehicle’s suspension, which is the system that connects a vehicle to its wheels. Proper alignment will adjust the angles at which your tires contact the road.
Why You Need An Alignment:
When your wheels are not properly aligned, your tires will wear unevenly, causing their life expectance to diminish greatly.
Below are examples of issues caused by poor alignment:
- Feathering- The tread is smooth on one side and sharp on another. Typically, poor toe alignment is the cause.
- Camber Wear- The inside or outside of the tread is more worn than the center.
- Heel/Toe Wear- One side of your tread block is worn down more than the other. You will notice jagged teeth on the tread. This could be due to not rotating the tires often, or not having them properly inflated.
What Is Tire Balancing And Why Do I Need It?
Tire Balancing- Because tires rotate at high speeds, centrifugal force can make the slightest tire imperfection, or weight difference, create a vibration felt through the vehicle.
Two types of imbalances are accessed and adjusted during the alignment process, static and dynamic:
-Static Balance- This adjustment is for vertical movement that is causing the vibrations.
-Dynamic Imbalance- This adjustment is for vertical and lateral movement that is causing the vibrations.
When a technician balances your wheel/tire, they inflate the tire with the proper pressure. Then they place the tire on a machine that spins the wheel/tire at a high rate of speed. The machine will then indicate where the imbalances are, and the tech will apply weights to those areas if needed.
Why Do You Need To Balance Your Tires- If your tires are not properly balanced, they will wear out well before they reach their manufacturer-suggested life expectancy.
How Often Should I Get My Tires Balanced?
Having tires aligned and balanced every 5,000 to 6,000 miles can help maximize their lifespan and overall performance.
What Is Tire Rotation And Why Do I Need It?
What Is A Tire Rotation?
Tire rotation is moving/switching your tires to different locations. For example, your right rear tire can be moved to the left front tire position.
Why Are Tire Rotations Important?
Tires wear differently in other locations of the vehicle, rear tires wear differently than front tires, same with left vs right tires. By rotating the tires regularly, you allow them to wear evenly, prolonging the life of your tires.
How Often Should I Get My Tires Rotated?
Generally, you should have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles.
