How Do I Know If My Car Needs A/C Service?

We take the comforts of our car systems for granted until they aren’t working well… The most noticeable might be your A/C not working on a hot day. However, you shouldn’t wait until your A/C isn’t working to show it a little TLC.
The following are signs your car may need A/C service:
Less cool air from your A/C, or no cool air. You may feel cool air but it just isn’t as cold as it used to be.
Air flow does not increase, regardless of how high you turn it up.
Grinding or squealing sounds when the A/C is running. This could be a sign of compressor issues.
Musty or stale smell coming from air vents may be a symptom of a coolant system leak or possibly even mold growth.
Water leaking inside your car. This can be caused by blockages in the evaporator’s drain tube.
Visible, greasy-looking leaks. This may indicate a Freon leak from the refrigerator and can be a serious problem.

What's Included With A Car's A/C Service?
Our highly trained technicians evaluate your system and perform the following services:
Visually inspecting all A/C system components for signs of leaks or abnormal wear
Evacuating old refrigerant from the system
Performing vacuum test to detect possible leaks
Recharging system with fresh refrigerant
Checking system for optimal pressure readings and temperature control
Running complete end-to-end performance testing of A/C system
Why Should You Maintain Your Car's Air Conditioner?
Besides having cool air on a hot day, your A/C can help your cars performance when it is running properly. Below are some benefits of having your cars A/C serviced:
Save and possibly avoid costly repairs down the road. With routine maintenance of your car’s A/C, you minimize the possibility of needing to resolve more complicated issues in the future.
Regularly cleaning your evaporator keeps your air free of mold or mildew, which can create harmful breathing air or even unwanted allergies.
A properly maintained A/C will improve the vehicles efficiency by using the optimal amount of oil and refrigerant, leading to less fuel consumption and overall increased functionality of the system.
A properly running A/C system defrosts your windshield and hinders fog from building up.
What Are The Common Components Of My Car's A/C?
Compressor- Pumps refrigerant through your AC system to provide your vehicle with cool, comfortable air.
Condenser- (A Heat Exchanger) Cools down the refrigerant (heated up by the compressor) and becomes a liquid (condensates) by transferring its heat to the flow of ambient air passing through it.
Receiver/Dryer or Accumulator- Retains moisture and contaminants from the system (during the receiver drier’s lifetime) and securing condensation of the fluid.
Thermal Expansion Valve or Orifice Tube- Reduces the pressure of the refrigerant fluid upstream of the evaporator. This drop in pressure cools the fluid, it is then sprayed into the evaporator.
Evaporator- Responsible for the heat exchange necessary for the car A/C system to function.
What Does It Cost To Fix My Car's A/C?
Although prices may vary on the issue itself and what vehicle you have, the pricing below is a good reference for ballpark budgeting. Your car MAY NOT Need full replacements, so come in and let us assess the issue for you.
Compressor- On average, replacing an A/C compressor costs around $1,100, with labor costs ranging from $160 to $200 and parts from $650 to $840.
Condenser- Replacement cost about $679 with average auto AC condenser replacement prices ranging from $585 to $773
Receiver/Dryer or Accumulator- Replacement is between $77 and $519 with an average of $243
Thermal Expansion Valve or Orifice Tube- The average thermal expansion valve (TXV) replacement cost for an AC unit is $470, but the price can range from $185 to $750 depending on multiple factors.
Evaporator- Replacement of an A/C evaporator could be from $995 up to $1250, or more.
